A-Ret Gel is a vitamin A derivative. This topical gel is utilized for treating mild to moderate acne and repairing skin damaged by excessive sun exposure. A-Ret Gel can cause skin irritation and accelerates the growth (division) and death of skin cells, leading to an increased cell turnover. In fact, the number of skin cell layers is actually diminished.
For individuals suffering from acne, new cells replace the existing ones in pimples, and the heightened cell turnover helps in preventing the formation of new pimples. Similarly, tretinoin can lessen some wrinkles, hyperpigmented areas, and rough skin, all of which are associated with sun-damaged skin. Patients with sun-damaged skin typically observe improvements within the first 3 to 4 weeks of treatment. Brown spots start to fade after six to eight weeks, while wrinkles may decrease or completely vanish after 3 to 6 months. After application, only a small amount of the medication is absorbed into the body.
While using A-Ret Gel, avoid exposure to sunlight or artificial UV light (such as sunlamps or tanning beds). This product can increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight, potentially leading to sunburn. If you need to be outdoors, use sunscreen (at least SPF 15) and wear protective clothing. Take care to prevent A-Ret Gel from coming into contact with your eyes, mouth, nose, or lips; if it does, rinse with water. Do not apply A-Ret Gel on sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped, irritated, or broken skin. Refrain from using this medication on wounds or areas affected by eczema. Wait until these conditions are fully healed before applying A-Ret Gel.
Continue using this cream for the entire duration prescribed, even if you feel it is not effective. Improvement in your skin may take weeks or months to become noticeable. If you are treating acne with A-Ret Gel, you might experience a slight worsening of your condition initially. Contact your doctor if skin irritation becomes severe or if there is no improvement in your acne within 8 to 12 weeks.
It is unknown whether A-Ret Gel poses risks to an unborn child. Prior to using A-Ret Gel, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Tretinoin can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. Do not use A-Ret Gel without consulting your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
